Supported Markdown
Headings (# through ######), bold (**), italic (*), strikethrough (~~), links, images, unordered and ordered lists with nesting, blockquotes, inline code, fenced code blocks, horizontal rules, and GitHub-style tables. Paragraphs are separated by blank lines, and line breaks within paragraphs follow the two-trailing-spaces rule.
The output is semantic HTML5: h1-h6, p, strong, em, ul, ol, li, blockquote, code, pre, hr, table, thead, and tbody. No inline styles or classes are added, so the HTML inherits your site's stylesheet cleanly.
Why Convert Markdown to HTML
Many platforms accept HTML but not Markdown: email templates, legacy CMS editors, eBay listings, and forum posts. Writing in Markdown is faster and more readable than hand-writing HTML, so this tool gives you the authoring comfort of Markdown with the compatibility of HTML. It is also handy for previewing README files before committing them.
Worked Example
Type "## Features - **Fast**: instant preview - **Free**: no signup" and the converter produces an h2 followed by a ul with two li elements, the first containing a strong tag. The preview shows exactly how it will render, and the source panel gives you the markup to paste anywhere.
Tips for Clean Output
Leave blank lines around headings, lists, and code blocks; Markdown parsers need them to recognize block boundaries. Escape literal asterisks and hashes with backslashes when you do not want formatting. For tables, keep the header separator row (| --- | --- |) or columns will not align.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert Markdown to HTML?
Paste your Markdown into this tool. It renders a live preview and generates clean semantic HTML5 that you can copy or download. The conversion runs entirely in your browser.
Does it support GitHub-flavored Markdown?
Yes for the essentials: tables, strikethrough, fenced code blocks, and task lists are supported. Advanced extensions like footnotes are not included.
Is the generated HTML safe to paste into my CMS?
Yes. The output is plain semantic HTML with no scripts, inline styles, or external references. It inherits your site's existing stylesheet.
Can I download the result as a file?
Yes, the Download button saves a complete standalone .html file with basic styling, ready to open in any browser or attach to an email.
Why does my list not render?
Markdown lists need a blank line before them and consistent indentation for nesting. Make sure list items start with '- ', '* ', or '1. ' at the line start.
