π¬π§ UK's COVID Vaccine Queue
Which JCVI group would you have been in?
Your priority group (historical)
For informational purposes only, not medical advice.
The UK rollout followed the JCVI's nine priority groups: care home residents and carers first, then 80+ and health workers, descending by age and clinical vulnerability to group 9 (50+). A 67-year-old with no conditions would have been in Group 5. The rollout is complete; this page is a historical guide.
The UK framework was set centrally by the JCVI for all four nations. The framework was UK-wide; delivery ran through the NHS.
How to Use This Checker
Answer the questions as they applied to you during the rollout period (2020-2021). The tool returns your priority group under UK's published framework.
Enter your age at the time of the rollout.
Select your occupation and living situation from the options.
Note any underlying health conditions, then read your priority group with the historical context.
The JCVI Priority Groups
The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) defined nine priority groups. The order was strictly by mortality risk: care homes, then the oldest, then the clinically vulnerable, descending in five-year age bands to 50.
| Group | Who was in it |
|---|---|
| Group 1 | Care home residents and their carers |
| Group 2 | Adults 80+, frontline health and social care workers |
| Group 3 | Adults 75+ |
| Group 4 | Adults 70+, clinically extremely vulnerable |
| Group 5 | Adults 65+ |
| Group 6 | Adults 16-64 with underlying conditions |
| Group 7 | Adults 60+ |
| Group 8 | Adults 55+ |
| Group 9 | Adults 50+ |
Worked Example
A 67-year-old with no health conditions: past groups 1-4 by age, into group 5 (65+). The checker returns Group 5.
A 45-year-old with diabetes lands in group 6 (16-64 with underlying conditions), ahead of a healthy 62-year-old in group 7. Clinical risk outranked raw age in the middle bands, a deliberate JCVI choice.
Reading Your Result
Groups 1-9 covered roughly everyone 50+ plus younger at-risk adults; under-50s without conditions followed in the general rollout. Within groups, local NHS scheduling set the appointment order.
The rollout is complete. The UK primary rollout completed in 2021, with boosters following JCVI advice. For today's guidance, see the NHS for current COVID and other vaccine advice and our US schedule checker for the American adult schedule.
Honest Framing
This page reconstructs a historical allocation framework for education. It is not a live queue, it confers no priority today, and the simplified checker cannot capture every sub-priority or local adjustment UK made during the rollout. Treat it as a window into pandemic decision-making, not a personal medical tool.

Frequently Asked Questions
How did UK prioritize COVID-19 vaccines?
UK used nine priority groups, JCVI groups 1-9. Group 1 covered care home residents and staff, then groups descended by age and clinical risk to group 9 (adults 50+). This page's checker applies that framework so you can see where you would have stood.
Which priority group would I have been in?
Enter your age, occupation, and health factors in the checker above. It applies UK's published the JCVI 9-group framework and returns your group. Remember this is historical: the rollout is complete.
Is the UK vaccine queue still running?
No. The COVID-19 rollout this page describes is complete, and the queue no longer exists. This is an educational lookback at how UK allocated limited early supply. For current vaccination guidance, see the NHS for current COVID and other vaccine advice.
Who was vaccinated first in UK?
JCVI group 1: care home residents and their carers.. Protecting the highest-mortality setting first, care homes received the earliest doses in December 2020.
How were underlying health conditions defined?
Definitions followed JCVI's clinical guidance at the time, generally covering chronic heart, lung, kidney, and liver disease, diabetes, weakened immunity, and severe obesity. Exact lists evolved during the rollout.
Did priority differ within UK?
The UK framework was set centrally by the JCVI for all four nations. Delivery was organized through the NHS with national booking systems, but the priority framework itself was national.
Where do I find current vaccine recommendations?
the NHS for current COVID and other vaccine advice. Schedules change, so the official source beats any guide, including this one.
Why did countries prioritize at all?
Early supply was far smaller than demand. Prioritization protected health systems first (keeping hospitals staffed), then saved the most lives per dose by reaching the highest-risk people earliest. Every country's framework was a version of that ethics.
