Rotate PDF Pages
Fix sideways or upside-down pages. Rotation is lossless and instant, processed 100% in your browser.
How to Rotate PDF Pages
Upload the PDF and decide the scope: every page, or just a few. Scanned documents are the classic case, where a handful of pages went through the feeder sideways. Pick Selected pages and type the range, for example 2-5, 8. Then choose the angle. A page lying on its side needs 90 degrees; a page that is upside down needs 180. Direction matters only for 90 and 270 degrees: clockwise turns the top of the page to the right, counterclockwise to the left. Click Rotate Pages and download the fixed file.
Which Angle Do You Need?
Open the PDF in your reader and look at a bad page. If the top of the content points to the right, rotate 90 degrees counterclockwise (or 270 clockwise, same thing). If the top points left, rotate 90 degrees clockwise. If the page is upside down, use 180 degrees, where direction makes no difference. When in doubt, try 90 clockwise first: if the result looks worse, rotate 90 counterclockwise twice, or simply re-run the tool with the opposite direction. Because rotation is lossless, experimenting costs nothing.
Lossless Rotation, Private by Design
Unlike rotating an image, rotating a PDF page does not touch a single pixel. The tool flips a rotation flag in the page dictionary, and every compliant reader honors it. File size barely changes and quality is untouched. Everything runs locally with pdf-lib, so the document never uploads anywhere. Note that password-protected PDFs cannot be opened by the tool; unlock them in a desktop reader first. To remove unwanted pages entirely instead of rotating them, use the Delete PDF Pages tool.
Batch Rotation Tips
When a whole batch of scans came out sideways, process one file to confirm the correct angle and direction, then apply the same settings to the rest. Rotation is fast enough that a dozen files take only a minute. If different files need different angles, sort them into groups first rather than mixing settings in one session, since the tool applies one angle per run.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I rotate pages in a PDF?
Upload your PDF, choose whether to rotate all pages or a specific range like 2-5, pick the angle (90, 180, or 270 degrees) and the direction, then click Rotate. The tool adjusts the rotation flag on each selected page and downloads a new PDF. The whole process runs in your browser, so even sensitive documents never leave your device.
Can I rotate only some pages, not the whole document?
Yes. Select the "Selected pages" option and type a range such as 3, 7-9. Only those pages are rotated; the rest stay exactly as they were. This is perfect for scanned documents where a few pages came out sideways while the rest are fine. Page numbers start at 1, matching your PDF reader.
What is the difference between 90 clockwise and 270 counterclockwise?
They produce the same visual result: a page turned a quarter-turn to the right. The tool offers both directions so you can think in whichever way feels natural. Two 90-degree clockwise rotations equal one 180-degree rotation, which flips the page upside down. If a page is sideways to the left, one 90-degree clockwise rotation straightens it.
Does rotating reduce PDF quality?
No. Rotation only changes a metadata flag on the page that tells viewers how to orient it; the text and images are not re-rendered or recompressed. Quality is preserved at 100 percent and the file size stays nearly identical. The rotated pages will display correctly in every PDF reader.
My scanned PDF has upside-down pages. Will this fix them?
Yes, choose 180 degrees for upside-down pages. A common scanning mishap is a stack where some pages were fed rotated; select just those pages with a range like 4, 9-11 and rotate them 180 degrees. For pages that are sideways, use 90 degrees in the direction that straightens them.
Are my files uploaded to a server when I rotate them?
Never. The rotation is performed by the pdf-lib JavaScript library running locally in your browser tab. Files are read from your device into memory, modified, and downloaded straight back. You can verify this by disconnecting from the internet after the page loads; the tool keeps working.
